Seychelles is a paradise of sorts. With
100 plus islands and 90,000 people, the Seychelles archipelago has only
had permanent residents for 235 years. This explains why its natural
flora and fauna has survived for ages. Here are 5 of the most talked about
places in Seychelles from first-hand accounts of tourists who have
visited the stunning archipelago.
1. Valle de Mai Nature Reserve
The Vallee de Mai is such a beautiful
reserve to visit. Nice hiking trail with hilly terrain, so get ready for
lots of climbing. Go with an umbrella, especially for the kids, in case
it rains. A heavy monsoon rain could drench you and add some magic to
the whole experience. The reserve is a special UNESCO World Heritage
site and home to the black parrot. If you arrive before 9am, you will
enjoy the benefit of a free guide. Exploring without one could be boring
and uninteresting; so get one to learn a lot and maximize your
experience.
2. Spiagge di Anse Marron
What a spectacular piece of paradise it
is! You begin with a long and intense hike, made easier with the help of
a guide, and you get rewarded with the most perfect beach you can ever
experience anywhere. You can’t afford to forget your camera on this
trip. The sight is immaculately beautiful, a great opportunity to
capture shots and memories of a lifetime. Let down your hair and relax
in the swimming area protected from the turf. The Anse Marron is
arguably the crown of Seychelles.
3. The Clock Tower
A beautiful and imposing landmark standing
in the middle of Victoria City, situated in Mahe Island, the capital of
Seychelles. To some, it’s no big deal but to many it is a great
reference point when asking for directions, especially solo travellers.
The clock tower origins can be traced to the early 1900s when it was
built as a copy of the clock tower in front of Victoria Station, London.
A well maintained clock, tourists can easily access the Victoria Market
and the Hindu temple from there.
4. Victoria Market
Looking for anything to buy from t-shirts
and fresh veggies to fruits and oil? Victoria Market is the way to go.
It’s a colourful market set within the heart of the city. There’s lot to
see, hear, buy and experience. The fishes, in their variety of colours,
are fascinating to see, especially if you are with kids. A little
warning: the odour of the fish market is pretty heavy. It’s nothing
serious though and the best time to visit is in the morning.”
5. Sychelles National Botanical Gardens
With just 100 Seychellois Rupee (or 7
USD), you’ll gain entry into one of Seychelles oldest national
monuments. This tropical garden boasts of an amazing collection of
trees, palms and flowers – a perfect place to relax and immerse yourself
in the serenity of nature’s greens. You’ll also get to see the Coco de
Mer, a national fruit, planted by His Royal Highness Prince Phillip in
1956. Check out the population of giant tortoises from Aldabra, some of
which are up to 150 years old. Fruit bat colonies are all around the
garden; the locals are known to eat them. You might encounter some flies
around, so have some repellent handy.
